I volunteered at the Brazelton Centre for 2 months whilst studying my MPhil degree at the University of Cambridge. As a psychology student, I was intrigued by their research focusing on the importance of the infant-parent relationship to the baby’s development. During my time of volunteering, Susana has been very supportive and always tried to make sure that what I was doing was in line with my volunteering goals. I also felt that the experience was very inclusive with the regular volunteer meetups and lovely tea times.
I am from Brazil and I am 28 years old. Since December 2017, I have been studying English in Cambridge and working as a volunteer at the Brazelton Centre UK. It has been an amazing experience where I have been able to meet new people. I have improved my English and I have gained experience working in an office in abroad, which will increase my opportunities when I return to my country. I feel proud being part of this team and enjoying many amazing moments here. I am sure that I will carry this experience with me forever. Thank you Brazelton Centre UK.
I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to volunteer at The Brazelton Centre for the past year, assisting with a variety of research tasks that aligned with my own interests in child development and parent-infant attachment.
With the helpful guidance of the Research and Development Manager, I immersed myself in numerous projects. This included conducting a literature review on parent-infant attachment in the antenatal period, developing questionnaires for use in antenatal group sessions, co-facilitating an antenatal group session and even co-authoring a poster on the session outcomes, which was presented at WAIMH 2018 in Rome. Susana always ensured I was involved in something that was of interest to me, and that would help me to develop my research skills and overall knowledge of parent-infant relationships and baby behaviour. It was a true pleasure to be a part of such a supportive and friendly team.
